Jojoba Oil Benefits: 7 Incredible Ways to Use it For Beautiful Skin and Hair

Jojoba oil is a great beauty ingredient. It is a natural oil extracted from the seed of the jojoba plant is is closest to the oil produced by the human skin called ‘sebum’ that helps protect and heal the skin from external toxins. It is the first defense barrier for the skin. Jojoba oil being the closest in construction to the human sebum is a natural replacement for it. When the body is unable to produce enough sebum to protect against harsh external elements, jojoba oil can be the perfect skincare solution.

Jojoba oil contains essential vitamins for the skin such as Vitamin B, E and key minerals such as zinc, copper. In adulthood, your skin tends to produce lesser sebum hence making the skin dry and dull looking. Jojoba is a natural supplement that can be used for your regular skin care routine. Here are seven benefits of Jojoba oil which you probably didn't know.

1. Retains moisture:
Jojoba oil helps retain moisture in the skin
thereby keeping the skin hydrated and looking fresh. Jojoba oil helps moisturize the skin, without clogging the pores, allowing for a healthy skin type. In addition, it also prevents the buildup of bacteria in the pores of the face, which tend to cause blackheads and breakout of acne.

2. For soft lips:
For fresh and soft lips, jojoba oil can be gently massaged on the lips to ensure no dryness and cracks.

3. Reduces wrinkles:
The essential vitamins present in Jojoba oil help greatly reduce wrinkles and the visible effects of ageing
. Since jojoba contains no harmful chemicals it can be used as part of one’s daily grooming routine.

4. A natural sunscreen:
Jojoba oil is also applied on the full body, which makes it a good natural alternative to harsh sun screen creams
.

5. Treats skin burns:
Jojoba soothes any burnt skin by going deeper into the tissues and healing them, this helps the pain after a sunburn or tan. With its natural healing properties Jojoba oil is helpful in reducing skin burns during shaving.

6. Good for your hair:
Jojoba oil helps strengthen hair follicles on the scalp causing hair to grow stronger and healthier. The presence of Vitamin E & B conditions the hair shaft making the hair shinier, adding volume and density. The stronger hair shaft prevents hair breakage due to drying wet hair every day. Head massages with jojoba oil help to also condition the scalp which removes scalp dryness. Thus avoiding dandruff and itching.

: In addition to all its amazing all round applications jojoba oil can be used as an effective and natural makeup remover.
All you need to do is take a few drops of the oil on a cotton sob and simply glide it to remove stubborn eye shadow and kohl.

Yet Another Reason to Start Eating Healthy

Yet Another Reason to Start Eating Healthy

It's not without reason that we are told time and again to switch to a healthy lifestyle for the sake of our health. Doing so can prevent you from various illnesses as well as keep you young and active. According to a study done by Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, people who do not smoke, consume alcohol moderately and maintain a healthy weight may live up to seven years longer than the general population, and spend most of these extra years in good health. The study, published in the journal Health Affairs, showed that people who refrain from engaging in risky health behaviours have a longer life than the famously long-lived Japanese.Researchers analysed data for more than 14,000 individuals and found that never-smokers who were not obese lived 4-5 years longer than the general population, and that these extra years were free of disability. "Improvements in medical technology are often thought to be the gatekeeper to healthier, longer life. We showed that a healthy lifestyle, which costs nothing, is enough to enable individuals to enjoy a very long and healthy life," said Mikko Myrskyla, Director of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research in Germany.

"A moderately healthy lifestyle is enough to get the benefits. Avoiding becoming obese, not smoking, and consuming alcohol moderately is not an unrealistic goal," Myrskyla said.

7 Low Carb Vegetables You Can Have While Trying to Lose Weight

7 Low Carb Vegetables You Can Have While Trying to Lose Weight

Carbs have earned a bad reputation when it comes to weight loss. But, in the recent years, a lot has changed with health experts agreeing that carbs are an essential part of a balanced diet and are absolutely required, especially if you want to lose weight and stay slim. According to Celebrity Nutritionist, Pooja Makhija, at least 60% of our daily diet should be made up of carbohydrates. The idea that all carbs are not equal is the key to weight loss. A simple rule is to switch to whole grains from refined carbohydrates like white rice. When it comes to vegetables, it can be a bit tricky.  In order to lose weight in a healthy way, you can swap some of your daily eats with low carbohydrate options. Consultant Nutritionist Dr. Rupali Datta tells us, roots and tubers contain more carbohydrates than green leafy vegetables. She suggests the following veggies to include in your diet if you're planning to cut your carb intake.

1. Spinach

Considered as a superfood, spinach leaves are loaded with essential vitamins like K and A that can only be derived through your diet. Besides being low in carbohydrates, spinach is also low in calories but high in fiber. This keeps you full for longer, prevents overeating and curbs unwanted cravings.

How to Use: You can whip a spiced spinach soup topped with cottage cheese croutons
for a light dinner or alternatively, you can also make a warm spinach salad with a citrusy dressing and a sprinkle of sesame seeds. You can also throw in some nuts like walnuts and almonds to add a crunch. If you’re a non-vegetarian, add a boiled egg to the salad to make it a wholesome meal you can enjoy on your diet and get your daily nutrients.

2. Lettuce

You may think of lettuce as just another salad leaf but it is packed with folate and a type of soluble fiber called pectin which can speed up the weight loss process. The good amount of fiber it contains may also help to ease bloating and discomfort which may happen while you're on restrictive diet.

How to Use: When using lettuce in a salad, make sure the leaves are completely dry to add the crunch. Also, use a touch of sweetness in your dressing. It makes the flavour more rounded and full. But why restrict it just to salad? Lettuce can be used as a wrap or to encase chicken dumplings substituting refined flour. Try this delicious chicken in lettuce
for lunch.

3. Radish

We love the radish for its crisp texture and peppery hot flavor. Radish is low in calories but can be quite filling because of the high fiber content. This helps in lowering bad cholesterol levels and aids weight loss. It also has a low glycemic index.

How to Use: If it is too pungent for you, it can be reduced by salting the radish or steaming it with other vegetables. A simple Mooli ki Bhurji
paired with a wholegrain chapati makes for a lovely lunch idea.

4. Mushroom

What's so super about them? Mushrooms are one of the few natural sources of Vitamin D. They contain no fat and are a valuable source of fiber. They can be a great low-calorie and low-fat substitute for meat.

How to Use: Mushrooms are very versatile. Try stuffed masala mushrooms with corn
, or a simple mushroom matar veggie.
If you've been good all week, you can treat yourself to a whole wheat pasta with mushroom sauce

5. Cabbage

Cabbage is rich in antioxidants and Vitamin C. "Cabbage juice can be very effective in helping you reduce weight. It purifies the upper section of the intestines, which makes the elimination of waste from the body easy, thus helping with digestion," says Dr. Komal, Nutritionist at SCI International Hospital.

How to Use: Not a fan of great juices? Not a problem. Try this lovely South-Indian style cabbage and moor recipe
- another stunner for lunch. If you want to do away with the smell which most people may not like, cook it for a short time, uncovered and with lots of water.

6. Cucumber

This one's not a secret, but do you really know how it helps? 95 per cent of it is water and so they fill you up quickly helping you sustain a calorie-controlled diet. This means that you can eat more of it and feel satiated. Cucumbers also contain a digestive enzyme called erepsin which helps in breaking down protein, cleanses the intestines and promotes a healthy gut.

How to Use: Skip the boring salad and try this creamy cucumber soup.
You can also have cucumber juice with a squeeze some lime juice and few mint leaves which makes a refreshing summer drink.

7. Zucchini

Interestingly, zucchini is known to increase our metabolism and also helps burn fat faster. Zucchini skin is loaded with silicon, chlorophyll and bitter chemical that help in digestion. So, don't peel them off. Even the seeds have diuretic qualities and should be consumed.

How to Use: Use it in dishes with protein and fiber. For instance, zucchini stuffed with soya
can be a great mid-meal snack. Also for dinner, the zucchini Parmigiana
is a great option. Layers of grilled zucchini topped with chopped garlic and a light sauce made with tomatoes and basil. Quick tip: When buying zucchinis, know that the ones with the brightest colour are more flavourful.

Vegetables are an essential part of a low-carb weight loss diet, all you need to do is pick the right ones.

7 Foods That You Must Not Eat For a Flat Tummy

7 Foods That You Must Not Eat For a Flat Tummy

While most of us make a conscious effort to stay fit and healthy, we are not always able reach our target on time. This may be due to the age factor, but more often than not, it is our diet that plays a significant role. We already know that exercising on a daily basis can help improve blood circulation and respiratory functions, but it may not be the sole factor that leads to the ideal body we dream of. The desire for a flat tummy is a dream for many, and a challenge too. You have to be consistent with your workouts and maintain healthy eating habits at the same time. Knowing what to avoid can certainly go a long way in helping you achieve a flat, toned abdomen. Here’s a list of foods that experts advise you must avoid:

1. Red Meat

Red Meat is a rich source of vitamins and minerals, and also a major source of protein. However, too much of red meat is not known to benefit when it comes to achieving a flat stomach.  Ordinarily, red meat is allied with weight gain and high levels of fat. It also contains high levels of sodium and preservatives, which can lead to water retention or bloating. Red meat is a highly saturated fat that plays a huge role in the fat accumulated around the belly.

According to Dr. Parveen Verma, Physician in Kailash Hospital, “Red meat contains very high levels of fat which can cause a lot disruption in the digestion process which leads to weight gain. It also leads to an increase in the cholesterol levels.”

Best Way To Eat:
Cut down the amount per serving or buy smaller cuts of it.

2. Corn

Eating anything in excess can be bad for your health. Be it fried food or something as specific as corn. Corn is one of the most fattening foods as it contains high levels of sugar and calories. Corn is known to have sugar in the form of fructose, which contributes excessively to the visceral fat. This fat in turn causes weight gain and has a tendency to store fat around the liver, which increases the vulnerability of the belly to increase weight. It should be avoided if one is following a diet to reduce the belly fat.

Best Way To Eat
: Corn should be consumed in moderate or smaller amounts. It can also be consumed with some protein or fat in order to minimise the glycemic effect.

3. Refined Sugar

Sugar is a form of carbohydrate filled with empty calories and no nutrition. Studies suggest that the consumption of sugar, especially the added sugars in our drinks, lead to weight gain and obesity and various other health problems.

According to Harvard Medical School, the calorie content of sugar-sweetened beverages can be deceiving because of the thin, watery texture that makes it very easy to consume them.

Best Way To Eat
: Avoid adding excess sugar to your food items or consume fruits that are naturally high in sugar instead of adding sugar to your meals.

4. Refined Grains

As the name suggests, refined grains like white bread, white rice and so on, go through several stages of industrial practices which in turn reduce the nutritional value that these grains hold. The person thus feels less full even after consuming large quantities.

They also increase the level of blood sugar in the body thus enhancing the capacity of the body to store and accumulate fat, especially around the belly making it difficult for us to stay loyal to our fitness regime.

Best Way To Eat
: Replace refined grains with whole grains like replacing white rice with brown rice, or consume smaller portions of refined grains in order to keep healthy.

5. Fruits with a lot of Fructose

Fruits are a natural source of several important nutrients like fibre, proteins and many vitamins and minerals. They form an important part of a balanced diet. However, certain fruits like cherry, guava, litchi and mango have a higher fructose content. This fructose may lead to increased hunger pangs and a desire for sugary foods that suggest different sugars behaving differently in the body.

Research also suggests that large amounts of fructose can trigger processes in the body like fat accumulation around the belly, which can also lead to an increase in triglycerides (harmful blood fats that could lead to heart-related issues).

Best Way To Eat
: Go for smaller portions and make sure you depend on a overall balanced diet plan for your nutritional needs.

6. High Sodium Foods

Excessive sodium can cause your body to hold excess water weight, making it difficult to achieve a flat midsection. Obesity and sodium are so closely linked with each other that cutting down the intake of salt might actually be one of the best ways to lose belly fat.

Studies indicate that on a regular basis, the human body needs only 200-250gms a day. Packaged food items usually contain high sodium content, which is not only harmful for our bodies but also the appearance of our stomach in particular.

Best Way To Eat
: While preparing your meals, limit the amount of salt in your recipes. You can also make it a habit to rinse your vegetables or canned food in order to reduce the sodium levels.

7. Trans Fats

Foods that are loaded with trans fats might be really appetizing and addictive but they are nothing but unhealthy empty calories packed with artificial sugars. Intake of such food items can be fatal in the long run. Some everyday products that could contain trans fats – cookies, cakes, chips and wafers, microwave popcorn or foods that need deep-frying like french fries and fried chicken. Be sure to read the labels properly when buying such products.

According to a research conducted at the Wake Forest University, trans fats move the fat of the body from other areas into the belly making the individual more susceptible to belly fat.

Best Way To Prevent
: Avoid store-bought cookies, cakes and other processed foods.
